Question Time

Do you have a question that’s been bothering you for a while, but you haven’t had the time to ask it?

Do you have a specific thing you want to know about doing home education but haven’t found it in my earlier ramblings?

Or is there something specific you would like to know about the Oh Waily family that I might be inclined to answer?

If so, now is your chance.   It’s…

Leave a comment here on the blog, or over on Facebook, and I’ll do my best to answer any query you have.

The Optimist Strikes Again

NaBloPoMo November 2016For those who are familiar with blogs at this time of year, you’ll be well aware that the eternal optimists come out of the woodwork and sign up to the month long challenge that is NaBloPoMo.

In a happy coincidence I was thinking it was time to remove the big, flappy dust cloths from the blog and actually start writing regularly again. So here we are. The obligatory pre-NaBloPoMo post warning you of the semi-annual unleashing of my internal Pollyanna.

Feel free to go all Penguins of Madagascar on me…. you can back away any time you like, just remember to “smile and wave boys, smile and wave!”

As for me, I’ll see any of you intrepid folk bright and early on Tuesday morning. Or Tuesday evening. Or maybe at 2 minutes to midnight; that still counts, right?

Updates all round

If you’ve been around the Patch’s online homes lately you will notice a bit of an update in looks.

I’ve finally managed to get some time to bring us kicking and screaming in to a brighter, more colourful place which is totally appropriate as the Oh Waily kids are most certainly bright and colourful.

In addition to the brighter look, I’ve also brought all of our online homes in to line so no matter where you follow us we will look the same (or very similar).  So if you follow us here at the blog you will recognise us over at Facebook, on our new Twitter feed, at our new Instagram feed or over at the YouTube channel.

If you already follow along on the existing Twitter and Instagram feeds, please note that there won’t be any more home education related posts there from now on.  So feel free to join us at the new Patch-specific accounts.

We’re moving

*Big news*

The Patch is moving to a self-hosting set-up.
If you are following us I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to move you right along with us, and hopefully we’ll all be ready to go by the end of the month at the latest.  I will schedule a blog post for the 1st of May, so if you normally have us come to you and you don’t see that post we may have had a hiccough.  You may need to re-subscribe – apologies in advance if this happens to you.

I’m looking forward to learning a whole new set of skills and hopefully not messing up the whole shooting match.
I figure that I’m leading the way, showing the kids that you can always learn new things.

As part of the changes I also have ideas about a new look for the blog and adding in a new feature or two.
Then eventually I hope that I can encourage my pair to provide the odd blog post – dutifully typed by me – and have them become more participant than subject from this year onwards.

In the meantime, wish me luck for the move.  See you at our new home shortly.

Happy New Year

As 2012 comes to a close tonight I thought I would finish my blogging year with a simple post.  Photographs of the two Oh Waily children.  Miss Oh Waily is snapped on Christmas Day at her Auntie H’s, while Master Oh Waily is caught with a fluffy moustache/goatee combo a few days later on a trip out with his Mum.
Christmas Day

It is rather appropriate that the whole tone of Miss Oh’s photograph should be pink. In spite of my lack of love for the candy-colour, she adores it and would have it for everything if she could. Lucky her, even her photographs agree with her taste.

Boy Meets Fluffy

As for Master Oh, this is him all over. Mischief incarnate.

The Oh Waily family would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours all the very best for the New Year.  May happiness, health and prosperity be yours in 2013.

Neighbourhood Walk Revisited

No doubt, if you’ve been reading the Patch for a little while, you will remember the fun adventure we had wandering all around neighbourhoods from various parts of the world.

Well, Jo put together a nice pdf file from all of our contributions and today I am going to put it up in the sidebar for anyone who likes the idea of using it with their children.

Hopefully it will be the first downloadable here at the Patch.  Enjoy !

NaBloPoMo Patch-style

November has rolled around again.  How quickly this year seems to have sped past!  And November in the blogosphere brings out the worst in me.  I determine to join NaBloPoMo and squeeze every ounce of inspiration out of myself for 30 days straight.

As I have already mentioned over at Oh Waily, I will be ramping up my experience by posting at both blogs.  I can feel my eyes rolling up in to the back of my head as I type that for the second time today.  Oh dear.  What tendency to over-commit? Ohhhh, that tendency…. righto then.  Tiptoe gently to the blog entry, keep your face neutral and looking towards the crazy blogger, feel for the door handle, turn and gently push your way out.  Turn, slam door and run for your lives !!

You haven’t backed away?  You’re as crazy as I am.
Oh well, I’m looking forward to being crazy with you too.  See you tomorrow for the start of the “real” posts.

If you’re joining in with NaBloPoMo this year, leave a link in the comments so I can come over and hang out with other nuts creative people too.

Welcome to The Pukeko Patch

Welcome to The Pukeko Patch Homeschool.

We are now officially open for business.  That is to say, I am now putting all of the Oh Waily children’s activities and learning milestones here instead of at my long term, personal blog.

If you are unfamiliar with the Oh Waily family, take a quick stop at the About Us page to learn a little bit more before plunging in to the back catalogue of doings from the Oh Wailys that can be visited on the Earlier Posts page.

I hope you enjoy following along with us in our learning journey.  I’m sure we shall have a roller-coaster ride of adventures, and no one likes missing out on a good fairground ride.  So don’t forget to click on the Follow Us by email button in the sidebar before you go.  Or if you prefer you can click to have us turn up in your Facebook feed.

To start us off I plan to post twice a week unless real life interferes with my blogging time, which as all parents know, is quite likely.   Posts will be coming your way each Tuesday and Friday.  I may even throw in a bonus third post if I’m feeling especially chatty.  I hope this will be just enough to keep you entertained, but not so much you want to run the other way from “filler” posts.
Let’s just see how we get on, shall we?
